What should you look for at a truck stop?
- Parking is the whole game after 6 p.m. Lots fill, and the reserved paid spots are the ones left. If you need a spot, reserve it in the chain's app by mid-afternoon or plan to arrive early.
- A CAT scale on site means you can weigh without a detour. Most chains have one; the sign out front will say.
- DEF at the pump is standard at the chains and hit-or-miss at independents. If you're low, check before you commit to the exit.
- Showers are free with a fuel fill at most chains. Credits expire; use them.
Which truck stop chains are known for what?
Love's: the biggest footprint, tire shops at most locations, and the fastest-growing network. Pilot and Flying J: one company, the most locations overall, and the best app for reserving parking. TA and Petro: the biggest lots and the most on-site repair, with full service bays. Road Ranger, Sapp Bros, Bosselman: regional, and often the better lot when the chains are full.
Can you get a truck repaired at a truck stop?
Most chain truck stops have a tire shop and some have full service bays. They're good at tires, PMs, and the common roadside fixes. For anything bigger, use the repair and towing listings here; the truck stop is a place to wait for them.
Are truck stops open 24 hours?
Nearly every truck stop is open 24 hours. The store and fuel always are; the restaurant and shop may not be. The listing shows what's on file.
